High awards for outstanding volunteer work

Last month, the President of the Structure and Approval Directorate (SGD) North, Wolfgang Treis, on behalf of Federal President Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier and from Prime Minister Malu Dreyer, the Cross of Merit with Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany to Peter Bäsch.

Under the motto “Saving food – helping people – protecting the climate”, Peter Bäsch – as a founding member, second chairman and for three years also as 1st chairman – has been involved with the Tafel Koblenz e.V. for a total of 23 years.

In the aid organization “Hidden Angels”, of which he has been chairman since 2020, he is also a driving force alongside Günther Pauli. This is a platform that collects money for Koblenz children in need and makes it available anonymously for urgent purchases. President Treis expressed his thanks and appreciation for his commitment. At the ceremony in the SGD Nord, his family, friends and, as the municipal representative of the city of Koblenz, the head of the cultural department, Dr. Margit Theis-Scholz, present. The initiators of the award were Peter Moskopp (Member of the Landtag), Rolf Hübner and Jürgen Scholz.

“Volunteering is fun, keeps you young and prolongs your life,” was Peter Bäsch’s reaction.
During a ceremony, Peter Bäsch also received the badge of honor for social commitment from the city of Koblenz. This year, the award ceremony took place for the first time during a ceremony with Lord Mayor David Langner and Mayor Ulrike Mohrs in the inner courtyard of Koblenz City Hall.
