This is what practical charity looks like: As part of their preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation, Leonie Müller, Julia Hochenstein, and Ourania Trapp from Koblenz-Güls and Metternich spent a day volunteering at the Güls distribution center of the Koblenz Food Bank (Tafel Koblenz) on August 5, 2026.
The three youths were welcomed by team leaders Ilse Bauer and Karl Müller, who first introduced them to the work of the Food Bank. They learned about the important role the Food Bank plays for many people, how food is saved from being wasted, and why the voluntary commitment of so many helpers is indispensable.
After this introduction, the teenagers were able to get hands-on themselves. They supported the team in sorting fresh and dry goods, helped prepare the goods for distribution, and subsequently assisted in handing out the food to the clients. This gave them a comprehensive insight into the diverse tasks of the Food Bank and allowed them to experience how important teamwork, organization, and a friendly attitude towards one another are.
At the end of the day, Leonie, Julia, and Ourania agreed: „We really enjoyed it. We wouldn’t have thought how diverse the work at the Food Bank is. It was wonderful to experience that you can help other people with just a little effort. We would gladly help out again anytime.“
Team leaders Ilse Bauer and Karl Müller were also delighted by the youths’ commitment: „It is wonderful to see young people find their way to us as part of their Confirmation preparation. Leonie, Julia, and Ourania worked with great interest, high dedication, and visible joy. Especially at the end of the day, you could tell how much they enjoyed the work. Such encounters are truly enriching for both sides.“
The Güls distribution center sincerely thanks the three teenagers for their energetic support. Such social projects impressively demonstrate that Confirmation preparation is much more than just preparing to receive a sacrament. It offers young people the opportunity to put Christian values such as charity, solidarity, and responsibility into practice.
We are already looking forward to welcoming more youths who wish to learn about our work as part of their Confirmation preparation and join us in setting an example of humanity.
